Policeman to run Pita Pit at The Landing retail development
Project manager Mark Perriam said tilt-slab construction had allowed for rapid progress on the 2100 square metre, two-storey building.
Contractors made the concrete walls and then had them trucked to the site, where they were erected.
"It's ticking along really well."
Those walls now enclose a neighbouring rented house.
Perriam said the building's roof would likely be on by Christmas.
The building, which received resource consent in June, would have two separate car parks with entrances on Sarah St and Elizabeth St, Perriam said.
Resource consent figures suggest the development will have 53 car parks in total.
Perriam said the building still had 300 square metres of untenanted office space available, as well as two retail areas comprising 85sqm and 192sqm respectively.
The building is not the only development planned in the neighbourhood. An empty section opposite the bowling green on Sarah St is expected to be turned into two two-storey townhouses.
